Step Two - CASS Certification - Mail Automation - Postal Software

Step two focuses on qualifying for and benefiting from USPS mail automation using CASS certified address correction postal software. If the address database is now CASS certified, this step may not be required. Unlike steps one and three; this step is performed only once. Postal software includes:

Postal Software CASS Certification - Address Correction and Verification.

AES believes in zero tolerance for broken addresses. To achieve this goal, we have established and proven the following procedure for USPS CASS address certification, correction and address standardization.

• Postal Software Batch CASS Certification - Batch CASS certification only accepts addresses with the highest address matching reliability. Although USPS CASS certification requires 98% accuracy, AES targets 99.9% batch CASS certification accuracy.
• Postal Software Interactive CASS Certification - CASS certification requires some address scenarios not be CASS certified in batch by postal software. Most addresses not certified in batch can be CASS certified interactively with address correction software.

Postal Software Address Enhancement - Address Quality Optimization

Batch CASS certification and DPV delivery point address validation saves address quality attributes that identify addresses at risk of causing return mail. CASS status codes, address quality flags and DPV delivery point validation codes are used by Mail-LIST to select addresses from mailing lists for address enhancement. Address enhancement is discussed in detail in the Mail-LIST List Enhancement page.

Postal Software Mail Automation - Postal Software Requirements

• Mail-LIST generates USPS 3553 and the bulk mail presort USPS Qualification Report. The postage summary reports the number of pieces per mail rate provided by the USPS Qualification Report.
• Mail pieces are presented to the USPS in one or two-foot trays or sacks as described by the USPS Qualification Report. Trays and sacks require barcoded labels created by Mail-LIST.
• Postage can be pre-cancelled stamps, meter or permit imprint.
• Addresses must be USPS POSTNET barcoded.

Postal Software Bulk Mail Presort Preparation

When Mail-LIST is used to prepare labels or envelopes from an address list, all USPS bulk mail preparation requirements are met by this application. This option is practical when all mail pieces are the same such as promotions, newsletters, etc. Refer to the Mail-LIST USPS Bulk Automation Mail Demonstration.

When addresses are being printed on the correspondence by your application, they must:

• Produce correspondence in ZIP-code order facilitating preparation of mail trays or sacks
• Include the POSTNET barcode in the address print area
• Create a file of ZIP-codes and carrier routes for the mailing Mail-LIST Bulk Mail Presort Software
• Prepare automation bulk mail trays and sacks according to the USPS Qualification Report
