Geographic Configuration:
If your organization’s address database does not require the entire USPS service area, computer resources can be saved by selecting one to three regions and/or states. States and regions can be mixed. Mail*STAR regions are shown in the image to the right, which can be clicked to open an enlarged map image.

Regions:
Mail*STAR regions include Northern, Southern and Western States. The entire USPS service area is included by selecting all regions. Mail*STAR regions were chosen minimizing divisions of Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas.

States:
Selection of individual states is limited to the fifty states and Washington DC.

Military and Territorial State-codes:
There are 62 USPS state-codes eleven of which include three US Military state-codes and eight territorial state-codes. These state-codes cannot be selected individually but are included in one of the three regions listed below.

"FM" and "MH" State-Codes Restored to Western States Region:
"Marshall Islands" and "Federated States of Micronesia" lost domestic mail service January 2006 and restored.

Effective November 19, 2007, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia will revert to the domestic mail classification schedule that was in effect prior to January 8, 2006.
