The painter helps find any deliverable U.S. postal address from the more than 150 million USPS delivery points while minimizing keystrokes by applying city lookup, ZIP Code™ lookup and delivery address lookup clues. For example, "AL" was typed into the state field eliminating all addresses not in "ALABAMA". Once the state-code "AL" is established, the city data window presents 580 cities in "ALABAMA"

Every new character entered into the city lookup clue field reduces the number of city candidates. At any time, a city can be selected with a mouse ‹click› or by providing more characters until one and only one city remains. "MONTG" reduces the list to one and only one, which is then, selected automatically presenting the city’s ZIP Code list.

From the street tab, the clue "AR%" has reduced the street list to 21. The character "%" is a wildcard. Of the five million streets in the U.S., only ten keystrokes were required to reduce the list to only 21 streets.

Each tab has three features shown at the very bottom of the window. The image above displays "0 of 21" indicating that there are twenty-one street candidates currently available, but none of them have been selected.

The hint message is suggesting that a street number is expected. Once the painter has standardized a complete address, the result is echoed in the CASS™ block where it can be used to update the address list or print an envelope for mailing complete with USPS Intelligent Mail^® or POSTNET™ barcode.
