City Lookup / State-code / ZIP Code™Lookup
The city, state-code and USPS® ZIP Code lookup tab provides three address element data windows. City lookup establishes postal city and state-code context for street, building and rural route. Once a city is set, other address element tabs appear.
The slide below is the result of typing 'A' in the state-code clue field followed by a ‹click› on the "AL" candidate row. The clue "MON" was typed into the city clue field followed by a ‹click›
on the postal city candidate row for "MONTGOMERY".
State-code Lookup Window
The state-code lookup window lists 62 USPS state-codes when no state-code clue has been entered and the geographic configuration includes the entire USPS service area. There are twelve additional state codes including:
• District of Columbia DC
• Caribbean Territories PR, VI
• Pacific Territories AS, FM, GU, MH, MP, PW
• Military AA, AE, AP
State-code Lookup Context
Hierarchically, postal state-code is the most significant USPS address element and therefore has no context. State-code can be bypassed implicitly set by ZIP Code.
State-code Lookup Clue
The state-code lookup clue is a live field meaning that every keystroke updates the candidate state-code list.
City Lookup Window
The postal city lookup window lists all cities in the established state conforming to the city or ZIP Code clue. The list contains postal and non-postal cities.
City Lookup Context
City context is established by the state-code and can be set implicitly by setting the USPS ZIP Code.
City Lookup Clue
The city lookup clue field is live meaning every keystroke updates the city lookup candidate list.
